Birthday watercolor tag shaped card ~ tutorial

Hello, it’s Gaylynn.  Today, I am sharing a belated birthday watercolor tag shaped card.  After a bit of watercoloring, I made a shaped card base to match.

This watercolor tag shaped card is perfect for those times when belated wishes are in order.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for making this watercolor tag shaped card.  To begin, die-cut, stamp and watercolor the top large tag panel layer from watercolor card stock.
Then, prepare the shaped card base, from a 4 1/4″ x 11″ sheet of heavy card stock.
To make the tag shaped card base, align the bottom of the largest tag die towards the bottom of the cardstock sheet.  Place the top cutting plate just shy of the narrow top end of the tag die.  This keeps the top from cutting away.  Then, position the die once more lining up and facing the narrow uncut tag end.  Again, keep the top of the die free from the top cutting plate.  Everything should be cut except the center of the two tag cuts.  Score the top of the tag and fold evenly to make a tag shaped card.  Finally, layer the top panel and embellish it, to finish.

Slanted diagonal hand cut card tutorial + watercolor flowers

Hello, Gaylynn here.  Hand cut card detail adds interest and a different look to card making.  Today, on the Unity blog, I am sharing a way to hand cut a card front to be used as a dimensional card border.

This is a hand cut card with an added watercolor floral border.  It offers a clean and simple look plus a peek at the inside sentiment.

Sentiment:  Hey girl!

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for making this slanted diagonal hand cut card.  To begin, cut and score an A2 card base.  Also, cut an inside panel using color cardstock.  Next, stamp the sentiment in the top right order of the inside panel.  Also, using waterproof ink, stamp the flowers and the leaves onto watercolor paper.  Then, watercolor the flowers and leaves.  Next, once dry, fussy cut (cut out) the flowers and the leaves and add foam tape to the back of each.  Now, using a paper trimmer or scissors, cut a diagonal from the card front, horizontally.  For this example, I cut at about 1″ from the bottom right up to 1″ from the top left score line.  Finally, assemble the floral border to the edge of the white diagonal flap and then add the inside panel to finish the card.

Potted plant shape card tutorial + gold embossing & Copics

Hello, Gaylynn here. Adding shimmer with heat embossing makes this potted plant shape card shine.  Today, on the Unity blog, I am sharing one way to make a handmade shape card with a garden theme.

This card was hand trimmed with scissors to get the potted plant shape.  It stands up like a regular greeting card.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for making this potted plant shape card.  To begin, stamp and heat emboss the background and the sentiment.  Also, stamp, color and heat emboss the flower.  I suggest that if you want to use Copic markers for color, stamp first with Copic friendly ink, color and then heat emboss, using a stamp positioner.  Next, fussy cut (cut out) the flower, the gold glitter trim and the sentiment.  Then, trim the bottom sides of the pot and the card base to make the shape.  Finally, assemble the card layers over the shape card base, to finish.

Tulip Flowers Girl Scene ~ Easel Card Tutorial

Hello.  It’s Gaylynn here.  For Technique Time at Unity Stamp Company, I am showing a way to make an easel card that includes an outdoor scene.  In this tutorial, no dies are used.

Incorporating an easel card technique is a great way to add interest and dimension to a handmade card.  It is interactive and is includes pretty scene building.

Sentiment:  Hi.

Helpful tips:
Here are helpful tips for creating this easel card scene.  To begin, stamp the girl, the flowers and the sentiment.  Next, trim and score a card base and a mint color frame panel.  Then, trim a cloud panel and a bottom trim.  Also, add color to the girl and flowers and then fussy cut (cut out) the girl and the flowers.  I used a circle punch for the sentiment.  Next, add light ink blending in two colors onto the cloud panel using a cloud stencil.  Finally, adhere the scored green panel onto the card base and add the accent layers to finish the easel card.

Card Base:  Cut 11″ x 4 1/4″, score at 5 1/2″.
Mint Frame Panel:  Cut 10 1/4″ x 4″, score at 5 1/2″ and 7 3/4″.
Cloud Panel:  Cut 5″ x 3 3/4″.
White Front Strip:  Cut 3 3/4″ x 2 1/4″.

Narrow shaped card + an oversized watercolor flower

Hello.  Gaylynn here with my Technique Time series.  Today, I am sharing a creative way to make a narrow shaped card with an oversized watercolor flower.  This was made to fit into an A2 sized envelope.

Helpful tips:
Here are helpful tips for creating this narrow shaped card with an oversized watercolor flower.  To begin, trim a card base to 11″ x 3″.  Then, score at 5 1/2″ for a narrow top fold card base.  Next, stamp and emboss the sentiment and accents directly onto the card base, leaving room for your main focal stamp to be added later.  Then, stamp and heat emboss a big flower onto the smooth side of watercolor paper.  For color, watercolor or use your color medium for the oversized flower.  Next, cut out the flower with scissors (fussy cut).   Then, add foam tape to pop up the oversized flower over the narrow card base.  Finally, place it so that the card will still fit inside of an A2 sized envelope.  For example, I placed my flower diagonally, so that part of it remains off of the card base.

Circle shape flower card with Copic markers.

Hello.  It’s Gaylynn with my Technique Time series.  Today, I am showing a way to make an all-occasion circle shape card with added Copic markers.

This floral circle shape card is made from cardstock to fit into an A2 size envelope, perfectly.  It was stamped and colored with Copics.  This can be used for most occasions like birthday, thank you, thinking of you or just because.  See below for details and a video tutorial.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for creating this.  To begin, pre-stamp cardstock with stamps and sentiments of choice, leaving room for trimming or die-cutting.  Die-cut the stamped panel into a circle shape approximately 4″ around.  Then die-cut a separate matching circle shape from plain cardstock, plus one smaller circle plain shape for the inside.  Also, use Copic friendly ink or ink for use with the markers or medium that you are using.  Next, add color to the stamping.  Finally, line up and adhere the circle layers at the top, to form a shape card.
