Tiled Letters

February 12, 2021 - by Julissa Sargo

Love Spelled Out

Happy Friday! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules and if you’re in a quick pinch for a Valentine’s Day card for your guy, girl, kids or just someone you love, this is a great option!  Today, I’m sharing the fun set “Tiled Letters” created by Nick Magnuson, himself!

I wanted to mirror the fun game of Scrabble, so I pulled the colors from the board.  I used a red, pink, blue and light blue ink to stamp the smallest whole piece of the stamp set.  I also used the blank outline to be around each stamped color block.

For the letters, I stamped the letters on wood paper giving them more of the real tiles from the game.  For these, I cut them right up agains the line for the tiles so that they look more authentic.  If you really wanted to make them look real stack the blocks to give them dimension.  For this card, I just used foam squares behind the letters.

The great thing about this set is that you can spell out anything and letters are unlimited.  I hope you enjoyed this quick Valentine idea and hopefully inspire some fun cards!  Thanks so much for stopping by and consider picking up this versatile stamp set.  And, it also has a corresponding SVG cut file so you don’t have to fussy cut like I did.

Until next time… Happy Crafting!

Boo Bird!

Oh the crisp air is calling for all things fall, including Halloween.  Hi everyone, this is Jules of Paper Gems by Jules and I’m sharing a fun paper piecing card that turns a cute stamp into a fun Halloween themed image using the new “Trick or Treat” paper pack.

This adorable bird is called “One Crazy Bird” and I thought it would be fun to use some of the fun, new patterned papers from the latest paper pack by Unity Stamp Co. called “Trick or Treat.”  Here’s a little step by step tutorial for this card.

Step 1.  Stamp the image on the patterned paper and once on white card stock (we’ll circle back to the white card stock one a little later).

I stamped this little guy paying mind to the direction of the patterned paper.  This fun lime green is so vibrant and give this birdie a subtle cool look.

Step 2.  Cut out just the body of the bird… actually, you might want to keep the wings, but I messed up so I ended up cutting them off.  Whoops! ????????‍♀️. Next, I used Crushed Olive Distress Ink to shade the edges of the bird and finishing it off with a black Momento marker on the edges.

Step 3.  Using the image stamped on white card stock, I fussy cut, the leaf, flower and eyes of the bird so that I cold color them (first) and then glue them onto the image.  This adds a little dimension and allows you to have white in this paper piecing part (say that 3 times fast). ????

Step 4.  Stamp the bird on white card stock again. This will be your base. I chose to die cut this one and layer it onto more fun patterned paper from the new Trick or Treat paper pack.  I used the same Crushed Olive Distress ink to give the bird a little glow.  Don’t worry about the inside of the image because it’ll get covered by the paper piecing.

Step 5.  layer all your base pieces and then add the paper-pieced bird on top.  For some added fun, I used a Nuvo Crystal Drops in Morning Dew over the pupils in the eyes.  For some final touches, I used a couple of letters from the Tiled Letters stamp set to give this a full Halloween look.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today and I hope you find some inspiration in using patterned paper when working on your next card.  Stop by the shop to see what fun new stamps are on sale!

Until next time… Happy Crafting!

Jules
