Happy first Friday of June! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules and today I’m sharing a fun and easy card to make for those outdoorsy people in your life. These will be Father’s Day cards, but you can make them into birthday cards or even congratulations cards. Let’s get into it!
- Mountain Scapes Stencil
- Winter Wonderland Walk Stamp Set
- Woodland Layers Stamp Set
- All About Dad Itty Bitty Stamp Set
- VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink
- VersaFine Onyx Black Ink
- Distress Inks:
- Speckled Egg
- Weathered Wood
- Iced Spruce
- Black Soot
- Bristol Smooth Paper
- Black Licorice Luxury Card Stock
When working with this stencil, you should start with the lightest color on the top layer and blend down. For the first layer, I used Speckled Egg Distress ink. The order of which mountain scape you use doesn’t matter… and you can also flip the stencil over for more layers.
I did use some tape to make sure I didn’t go beyond the stencil. The next color was Weather Wood Distress ink with the second level of mountains.
Below is what the layers look like blended together.
For the third layer, I used Iced Spruce. Helpful Hint: Try to avoid a dark harsh bottom line where the stencil ends. By keeping this color light, it makes it easier to blend the darker color using the distress inks. You can also use Distress Oxide inks that also blend really well.
Space your layers out so that you can still cover the bottom of each and not leave any gaps.
The last layer was black soot, but as you can see, it’s obvious where the third mountain ends. This is where you’ll need VersaFine ink. I stamped the trees from Woodland Layers stamp set using the VersaFine ink.
This ink really is bold enough to give the deep dark shadow look. But it doesn’t stop there. I added more trees using the Winter Wonderland Walk Stamp set and VersaFine Clair ink. This ink is still very bold, but not as saturated as the VersaFine.
Staggering the height of the trees provides depth and some realism in the image. The lighter black also creates a spacial difference. You can also do second generation stamping to create more space too.
I chose to use some of the sentiments in the fun All About Dad Itty Bitty Stamp set to finish up these cards, but you can use any sentiments. This stencil is just perfect for those challenging masculine cards and cards for those that love the mountains!
Oh, and if you don’t have some of the same tree stamps that I used, search tree on Unity’s page and you’ll be sure to find something in your stash… and if not, add it to your cart!
Thank you so much for following along. I hope you found some inspiration for your next card.
Until next time… Happy Crafting!
