Hello Crafty Friends! I am excited to be back for a new week sharing an idea using the beautiful Seraphim Wings stamp set! This set is truly so beautiful and the size of this butterfly just makes me smile! It is truly the perfect stamp for a mixed media card, tag, or project! So let’s get started!
I started with a piece of Hot Press watercolor paper. I started by creating a colorful background using Distress Inks in 3 colors: Crushed Olive, Tea Dye, and Vintage Photo. I started by adding one color at a time to my work surface (mixed media mat), by placing the ink onto the mat. I spritz the ink with water, then dip the paper into the water. I then dry the first layer of color with my heat tool. I continue this process with each of the colors to build texture using the colors. I absolutely love this technique and it is a great base for any mixed media work! Once all the layers were complete I set my panel aside to dry.
Next I prepped my surface with my antic static powder tool,. I then stamped the butterfly image from the Seraphim Wings stamp kit using VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink. I then heat set the image with clear embossing powder. Next I used my Distress Watercolor pencils to color in the image. I start by taping down the panel onto a hard board and then color the image starting with one layer at a time. I allow each layer to dry when watercoloring. Once all the coloring was complete, I trimmed my panel with a rectangle die from my stash.
Next I stamped the sentiment from the Wooden Heart stamp set using Archival Ink. I then trimmed the sentiments using my paper trimmer, then distress the edges with my distress tool and distress ink. I then stamped an image from Soul Mail for an added vintage look! I love creating my own ephemera using stamps!
To complete my card I added a few splatters using gold and brown ink. I then adhered the ephemera with a piece of lace using a mini stapler. I added the sentiments using a combination of foam tape and liquid glue.
I had a lot of fun creating today’s card! I hope this gives you an idea on ways to create a fun background for stamps in your Unity collection to give them a mixed media feel!
I will be back next week!
