One Background – Three Cards

Happy Friday! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules and today we are doing some inking that is out of this world!  I was so inspired by the video Whitney had posted using the new “Starlight Background” and her Distress Oxide inks that I had to try this!  I looked up some Oxide night sky blends and found this combo:

  • Fossilized Amber
  • Faded Jeans
  • Wilted Violet
  • Hickory Smoke
  • Black Soot

Check out this video tutorial to see how I used these colors to create this galaxy background!

The other part of this blog is how I used this ONE A2-sized background to create THREE fun cards!  See the diagram below to show how to cut your background.  Note that I did use the middle stitched square from the Scallops & Squares Die set.  That measurement is 2.5″ x 2.5″.

I opted not to use the scalloped dies, but instead matted all the stamped backgrounds with black card stock. This allowed the background to pop on the card.  I also used some foam tape to add a little extra dimension.  And what better way to pair a galaxy background than with aliens?!  I stamped three of the monsters from the “Monster Hugs” stamp kit and colored them with copics.

Thankfully these cute stamps are not out of this world… order them (if you don’t have them already) today and prepare to explore a whole new world with this fun background.

Unity Supplies:

  • Starlight Background Stamp
  • Monster Hugs Stamp Kit
  • Scallops & Squares Nesting Dies

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you found some inspiration.  Until next time…

Happy Crafting!

Creating Monster Backgrounds

Happy Friday, friends!  Today I’m using a lot of fun Unity products to make two really cute cards featuring “Monster Hugs” stamp set.  This adorable stamp set is so cute and perfect for Halloween birthdays.

So let’s start with Unity supplies:

  • Blue Raspberry Luxury Card Stock
  • Black Licorice Luxury Card Stock
  • Sweet Tooth Luxury Card Stock
  • Blue Lagoon GKD Ink Cube
  • White Pigment GKD Ink Cube
  • Obsidian Amalgam GKD Ink Cube

For the first card, I stamped 4 different stamps to create a fun background using the Blue Lagoon GKD ink on the Blue Raspberry Luxury Card Stock.  This simple tone on tone background allows for a fun but subtle background.

Next, I die cut a circle using the Sweet Tooth Luxury card stock and stamped the sentiment using the Obsidian Amalgam Ink.  Then I stamped some of the stars in yellow to break. up the stark white background.  Last I added a cute little monster from the Monster Hugs stamp set using an action wobbler creating a fun and simple interactive card!

For the next card, I used the same technique for the background, except this time I used the White GKD Pigment ink and white embossing powder.  Creating another fun and subtle background for these cuties.  Using the same pigment ink and white embossing powder, I stamped the sentiment on Black Licorice Luxury Card stock.

This time I used the other three monsters.  The orange and yellow ones are adhered using foam tape and the last monster in the middle is again, a fun action wobbler.

Hoping these two cards inspire some fun ways to use stamps to create backgrounds in different ways.  Until next time…

Happy Crafting!

Happy Birthday, Little Monster!

Hi everyone!  It’s Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules back on the blog today and I just can’t get enough of these little monsters in the new “Monster Hugs” stamp set!  There are so many ways to color, combine and use these little cuties!  For today’s card, I opted to make it interactive using a little wobbler.  But the real highlight to this card was learning how to make the character glow!

Using an interesting and new to me copic color combination, I made the one character appear to be glowing and the reflect onto the other little monsters.  I also created an out of this world background using the Star Confetti stencil by Unity Stamp Co.,  some white embossing powder and distress inks.  Click the video below for more details on making this fun interactive card!

This was such a fun card to make and so many elements to it.  And I’m so excited that the “glow” look actually looked pretty good.  It’s all a work in progress and I’m always excited to learn.  I hope this helps you and inspires something new!

Oh, and I wanted to make sure you had all the Copic colors used…

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope that you enjoyed this card, tools and techniques as much as I did.  Feel free to subscribe to get the Unity Blog and stay up to date with lots of fun ideas by the entire design team!

Until next time… Happy Crafting!

Jules
