Look Up Pup ~ Eye Catching Spotlight Stenciling + Stamping

Hello, friends.  Welcome to the Unity blog.  I’m Gaylynn.  Here is an eye-catching spotlight stenciling project with dog stamping and marker coloring. This is mostly a one-layer uplifting greeting card, except for the added hearts.

The featured Unity Stamp Company stamp and sentiment are from Look Up Pup and the creative stencil is Abstract Splotch Masking Stencil. To make this card, I used rubber stamping, ink blending, stenciling and die-cutting. I included the project steps, video and supplies below.

Additionally, here is a summary of the steps.

Helpful Tips:

  1. Prepare a vertical scored white card base 4 ¼” x 5 ½”.

  2. Stamp the dog and sentiment using Look Up Pup stamps onto a white cardstock panel using black ink.

  3. Die-cut the pup layer using a medium-sized rectangle from Scallops & Rectangles nesting dies.

  4. Using the Abstract Splotch Masking Stencil, ink blend over the top left and bottom right corners of the dog panel, using dye ink pads in green and blue shades.

  5. Tap white splatters over the stenciled areas, avoiding the stamping.

  6. Adhere the card front over the card base, adding optional hearts.

One layer card with winter deer scene building

Hello and welcome to the Unity blog.  I’m Gaylynn.  Today’s project is an elegant winter deer one layer card with scene building. I used a mix of stamping, heat embossing, stenciling and ink blending, all on one card front panel. Try mixing these techniques for a magical look.

For the focus of this project, I used Where The Treetops Listen red rubber stamps. I paired this with the Snowy Scapes Stencil. The full supply list and steps are detailed below.

 

To begin, here is a look at the finished card.
Sentiment: Wishing you peace in every season.

 

Helpful Tips:

  1. Precut and score a white A2-sized card base for a vertical card 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

  2. Trim a sheet of smooth white cardstock for stamping.

  3. Stencil 3 or 4 slopes on the bottom half of the stamp panel using light gray ink blending at the top of the slopes.

  4. Add generous ink blending over the top half just above the slopes. Use dark blue and medium blue colors.

  5. Heat set the ink blending.

  6. Stamp the two deer using gold metallic ink.

  7. Add clear embossing powder over the deer and then heat set the deer stamping.

  8. Stamp three trees and snow for a background using white pigment ink.

  9. Add white embossing powder over the trees and snow, then heat set the background.

  10. Die-cut or trim the scene using a deckle and stitches rectangle die 4″ x 5 1/4″.

  11. Stamp and trim a sentiment onto a label or stamp directly onto the background itself.

  12. Adhere the card front to the card base using flat or foam double-sided tape or glue.

Sentiment foiling with adhesive transfers & pressure

Hello, Gaylynn here.  Today, I am sharing how to add card foiling with adhesive transfers.  This technique incorporates pressure using a die-cutting & embossing machine.

The adhesive transfers make it easy to add foiled accents and sentiment to cards without the use of a laminator or heat.

In summary, here are helpful tips for making this floral card using foiling with adhesive transfers.  Begin by stamping and coloring the flowers onto white cardstock.  Next, add stenciling in the background.  Then, trim or die-cut the stamped panel.  Prepare an A2 card base in color cardstock.  Next, add sentiment foiling using the DecoFoil Adhesive Transfers along with pressure from a die-cutting & embossing machine.  First, peel away the backing, affix the word, peel away the front, add the foil and then run through the die-cutting machine using a carrier sheet. Finally, assemble the card, to finish.

Water soluble oil pastels ~ watercolor beach card

Hello, it’s Gaylynn.  Today, I am sharing a tropical beach scene card using water soluble oil pastels for watercolor.

For this one-layer Summer card, I used watercolor, stenciling and ink blending.  It was fun building added accents to this already lovely background stamp.

Helpful tips:

In short, here are helpful tips for making this tropical card using water soluble oil pastels for watercolor.  To begin, stamp the large background scene with waterproof ink onto watercolor paper.  Next, color in the stamped beach scene with watercolors.  I used oil pastels.  Then, heat set.  Also, mask the beach sand, the umbrella and the clouds, leaving the sky for stenciling.  Next, stencil a sunburst at the horizon.  Then, remove the stencil and masking.  Also, touch up where needed using a marker or pencil.  Finally, adhere it to the card base, to finish.

Colored Pencils on Colored Cardstock ~ Daisies

Hello, it’s Gaylynn.  Today, I am sharing a card featuring colored pencils on colored cardstock with a sympathy theme.

This daisy vase is perfect for sympathy card making to have on hand for those times when you want to send condolences.  And, it is possible and easy to add color over cardstock that is not all white.

Sentiment: Deepest sympathy.

Helpful tips:

In summary, here are helpful tips for this card using colored pencils on colored cardstock.  To begin, pre-stamp and die-cut the daisy layer onto color cardstock.  I used a teal shade for this card example.  Next, add color to the flowers and the vase using colored pencils.  Also, start by using one color at a time with a light hand.  Then, add white accents if preferred.  Also, repeat the color if you want a more vivid look.  Optional, use blending solution and blending stumps to very lightly smooth out the pencil coloring.  Once the coloring is completed, layer the panel onto the card front with a few embellishments, to finish.

One layer stenciled card & night sky frog spotlight

Hello, it’s Gaylynn.  Today, I am sharing a one layer night scene card.  This one features a frog spotlight and a surrounding night sky.

This one layer stenciled card was fun to spotlight with layers of ink blending around it.  The frog is just too cute.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for making this one layer stenciled card & night sky.  To begin, stamp the frog, sentiment and the heart using Copic friendly ink.  Next, die-cut the card front panel to fit the card base.  Then, color in the stamping.  Also, mask a spotlight area around the frog.  I used a stencil piece for masking but any shape that covers the stamping will work.  Next, begin adding ink blending in three darker shades, from lighter to darkest, from the masking outward.  Also, heat set everything.  Then, add white splatters over the blending and heat set again.  Finally, remove the masking and adhere the panel to the card base, to finish.
