Happy Friday! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog today with a fun birthday card for the guy who loves a good beer!  The latest Angie guy is a stud sporting his plaid shirt, cap and beard, the dude in Cheers & Beers stamp set is very cool!  I paired him with the Buffalo Check Background stamp and created a fun background using the beer stamp from A Cold One stamp set.

I started by stamping and cutting out this cool dude.  Keeping with the green theme, I stamped the Buffalo Check Background stamp on green card stock.  Next, I die cut the plaid using the Scallop & Stitched Squares Nesting Dies.  To add a little dimension, I used Rustic Wilderness Distress ink on just the edges.

I also stamped the “to another year” sentiment on black card stock using white pigment ink and heat embossing with white embossing powder and die cut it using. the Scallop & Stitched Sentiment Dies. I then die cut the the word CHEERS using another die through the plaid background and then die cut the same word with white card stock and layered it to pop it up.

Next, I stamped the beer from A Cold One over and over to create a fun background.  I layered it all together and added some golden flat sequins.  Minimal coloring with a fun pop of color for that fun pop in your life.

Happy Dad’s Day

Happy Friday! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules.  Today’s card is tooling around with a couple of masculine stamp kits to create a fun Father’s Day card for that handy dad in your life! I paired Forrest Guy and Best Tool in the Box stamp kits to create this fun card!

Let’s start with the background. I started by stamping the tools randomly on ivory cardstock using a light brown ink. Using Copics, I colored the images in. I also stamped Forrest on the same color cardstock and used the same Copic colors to color his outfit. I die cut out the background using the Scallops & Stitched Rectangles die set and fussy cut Forrest (leaving a little edge for the sentiment later).
Copic Colors Used:

  • Greens: YG63, YG61, G20

  • Hair, T-shirt & Tools: W6, W4, W3, W1, W0

  • Skin: E55, E53, E51

Pro Tip: For added detail, I used a white gel pen to add grays into his hair and stripes onto his plaid shirt. This can personalize your image for that silver fox.

Using Frayed Burlap Distress Ink to add some ink to the edge of the background. This will draw the eye to the center and keep Forest as a focal point. I stamped the sentiment using the same light brown ink. I did stamp it a few times to make it a little darker and die cut it out. I added some similar color washi tape to add under Forrest… and a button for fun!

You are Everything (Partial Stenciling)

Happy Friday, crafty friends! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog today sharing a card for those exceptional women in our lives!  As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s a great time to build your card stash to celebrate the women who mean everything to everyone.  This card is dedicated to them!

This card features the new kit:  The Very Best Gal, that can customize any woman in your life.  I paired it with Aleah Girl and gave her a little natural grey look.  To add to the background, I used the Plaid Builder Stencil set to connect the colors.

Copic Colors:

  • Hair:  T5, T3, T0
  • Skin:  E31, E53, E51, R01
  • Sweater: E44, E43, E42
  • Under Shirt:  B41, B21
  • Pants:  BG99, BG96, BG93
  • Boots:  E89, E87, E84

Distress Colors:  Tumbled Glass & Bundled Sage

To create the background, I started by stamping the titles my friend has:  Aunt, Sister, Grandma and Mother.  Then I line up the stencil over the image and secured it with washi tape.  I started by using the Tumbled Glass Distress ink and avoiding the words.

Using the second stencil, I lined up the first color and added the Bundled Sage.  In order to create the plaid look, you now how to do the same procedure vertically.

For the vertical version, I used the same two Distress Inks.  Once done, I found to other pieces of colored card stock to layer under the stamped background.

Now for Aleah, I colored a fussy cut her out.  Using foam tape, I adhered her to the left side of the words.  I then stamped and die cut the phrase from The Very Best Gal stamp kit and adhered it using foam tape again.

Lastly, I adhered it all to a white card base.  So if you’re making a card for an amazing aunt or gorgeous grandma, you know you can use this kit to customize any of your cards.  And if you’ve a special guy… check out The Very Best Guy stamp kit too!

Check This Buffalo Check Background Out!

Happy Friday!  This is Jules of Paper Gems by Jules and I am SO stoked to show you this fun spin on the new Buffalo Check Background stamps.  These two backgrounds are going to get a LOT of mileage in your craft room, for sure.  There are two different sizes for this awesome background and today, I’m using both with a super easy twist!  Check it out!

Red plaid is a perfect casual look during the holiday/winter season and this new A2-sized Buffalo Check background on the Wild Cherry Luxury Card Stock is a perfect combo.  But to add a real plaid fill, I used a white gel pen to make lines through the check and it totally adds to this already awesome stamp!  And that’s just the background!

Because I love all the detail of this plaid background, I didn’t want to lose the focus when added an image, so I added the plaid pattern onto the Angie Girl from A Little Warmth stamp set.  Want to know how to do that?  Just three steps:

  1. Color the scarf in with your chose of coloring mediums.  I used Copics (R29, R27, R24, R14).
  2. Create black lines in one direction, while trying to capture some of the curves of the scarf.  If you’re not sure how, try referencing an image online to see how a plaid scarf would look on someone.
  3. Using a white gel pen (or gold or silver might be fun too) and create subtle lines like your background.

Now, let’s slimline this fun background.  {Who doesn’t love a good slimline card?!}  Using the Buffalo Check Slimline stamp on the same Wild Cherry Luxury card stock and backed it on a Black Licorice Luxury card stock card base I made, I trimmed it down to a mini-slimline and added the beautiful girl from the December 2020 Kit of the Month:  Smile Wider Laugh Longer.

{Mini Slimline Dimensions:  3 1/4 inches by 6 1/4 inches}

Using the same technique on her scarf to create this simple yet bold image.  On this card, I cut the girl out, but still stamped the image onto the Buffalo Check background to place her in the right spot, but also to add the detailing back in.  Using the white gel pen, I colored in all the snow flakes from the image and added a few more.  Using foam tape, this girl pops off this background with a little dimension too.

Don’t feel limited to red with this background stamp (as you’ll see with all the other samples made by the design team) or even stamping it in black.  This would be great with tone-on-tone or even white on color card stocks!
