October Whit Kit Goes Wicked

This month’s October 2025 Whit Kit is all about timeless elegance, but I couldn’t resist giving it a little fang-tastic twist! With spooky season in full swing, I decided to turn this classy retro gal into a sassy vampire who’s ready to say, “I bite.” ????????

???? The Idea:

I loved the vintage vibe of the image in this month’s kit and thought — what if she was a glamorous vampire from the 1950s? Mixing elegance with a little Halloween mischief was too good to pass up!

The neutral tones and bold black patterns from the Eternal Midnight Weave Paper Pack made the perfect backdrop for a gothic twist. Add a little blood red bling with adhesive back stones colored using Copics and you’ve got a card that’s both spooky and chic.

✂️ Quick Tutorial:

1. Stamp & Color

  • I started by stamping the image from the October 2025 Whit Kit using black ink.

  • Colored her with alcohol markers, keeping her skin pale for that undead glow.

  • Added blue-black hair for a retro vibe and finished with bright red lips (and of course… a little blood dripping from her added fangs! ????).

2. Create the Background

3. Add Dimension

  • Popped up the stamped image and the speech bubble sentiment (“I bite.”) with foam tape for extra dimension.

  • Added black enamel dots and rhinestones for sparkle and texture.

4. Assemble the Card

  • Layered everything onto a coordinating black and white cardstock base.

????Additional ideas…

  • Use red ink to add some faux blood splatter in the background.

  • Use your own fingers to add red fingerprints on your background. The only time this is acceptable. ????????‍♀️

  • Create a batty background using the Batty Sticker Bundle or the Twilight Swarm Stencil.

Sometimes inspiration bites when you least expect it! ????I love how this card blends vintage charm with a spooky edge — perfect for Halloween or for your sassy friend who loves a little dark humor.

Three Stamps, Three Inks, Three Cards

Happy Friday, Unies! It’s Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog with 3 cards featuring 3 stamps using 3 colors!  The new “Incredibly Grateful” stamp set has three beautiful distressed leaves (in addition to another image and sentiments) that have the potential to make so many beautiful cards.  Here are just three of my first ideas!

Using a green, red and orange ink, I stamped the leaves on the left side of a card front. I used Rustic Whispers Paper Pack for an already autumn distressed look. Stamping the leaves works so well on this paper. I then stamped the sentiment toward the center and added a few more leaves and embellishments.

Using another sheet from the Rustic Whispers Paper Pack, I used a circle die and a pencil to make a light circle. Using the same leaves and the same colors (but mixing them up) I stamped over the line to create a wreath. I then stamped the sentiment in the middle and added embellishments.

For this last card, I opted to use Newsprint Greetings Paper and stamped the leaves all over the sheet.  I then die cut the “hello” from the “Happy Hello” die set out of black card stock three times and glued them together to add dimension. I used a metallic rub to give it a rustic look. I adhered it to the front before adding the black burlap string.

Hearts and love card + patterned paper

Hi there. Gaylynn here.  For today, I am sharing a love card with patterned paper hearts.  This is wonderful for Valentine’s Day and love occasions.

This is super easy to make with patterned paper and a little stamping onto one of the paper sheets.

Sentiment:
My love.  From the moment we met, you stole my heart.  I love you.

Helpful tips:
To make this love card with patterned paper hearts, choose coordinating paper sheets.  Then, trim or die-cut hearts from patterned paper and/or solid cardstock, sized to fit onto an A2 card base.  I used heart dies but most shapes work with offset layering.  Next, stamp the tree onto one of the paper hearts.  In my case, I used a vintage sheet and added distress ink blending on the hearts.  Then, add a touch of red color for the stamped hearts.  Also, trim your choice of sentiment strips for the sentiments.  Finally, layer it all onto the card base using a  mix of flat and foam double-sided tape or glue, to finish.

Simply Natural One Sheet Wonder

Happy Friday!  It’s Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules back on the blog sharing a fun “one sheet wonder” techniqe using the beautiful Simply Blessed {stamp & paper} Bundle currently available!  But even if you don’t have this stamp set or this paper pack,  you can use this fun technique to create a set of cards with any of your 6″ x 6″ patterned papers.  Let’s get crafty…

We will be taking that one patterned 6″ x 6″ cotton image to create four cards with different looks and sentiments. This is a great way to make gift sets of cards for friends and family or even to make several cards for future use. It’s also a great way to make use all that beautiful paper that we seem to hoard. I also used some of the other more solid colored paper from this pack to mat the cuts.  You’ll see this in the final steps.

Here are the dimensions of how I cut that one piece of 6″ x 6″ patterned paper.  This is just one way to cut yours.  And truthfully, you can make 5 cards with these 5 pieces, but really was not feeling the small square all by itself, so I paired it with the smaller rectangle. You can find lots of other ideas on Pinterest as well for more inspiration.

Once the pattered paper was cut, I matted each on white card stock, and then used the brown patterned paper to mat them as well.  I measured each 1/4″ taller and wider for each layer.  Now, let’s make cards.

Using the first 2″ x 4″ piece, I paired it with the Scallop & Circles Nesting dies and stamped the floral image and a sentiment from the Simply Blessed stamp kit.  Again, keeping this very clean and simple and using brown inks to keep with the color scheme.

Using the 2.5″ x 4″ piece, I centered it and paired it with the Scallop & Stitched Sentiment Nesting Dies along with a sentiment from the Simply Blessed Stamp Kit.  I opted not to use the scalloped die to just keep the same straight lines like the other cuts and I didn’t want to cover any more of the pretty patterned paper.

Using the second 2″ x 4″ piece paired with the Dashes and Frills Hearts die set and another sentiment.  These sentiments fit perfectly into many of the new die sets by Unity so make sure to try them out!

And for this last card, I paired the two smaller cuts: the 1.5″ x 4″ and 2″ x 2″ pieces. I layered them over each other and still centered them over the card front. I ended up trimming down white card stock for the sentiment to avoid covering up the pretty patterned paper again.

Can you believe that just one piece of patterned 6″ x 6″ paper can create these beautiful cards? And it’s such a great way to mass produce cards to gift away for those non-card making friends.

Watercolor graduation hat floral card + Unity birthday

Hi friends, Gaylynn here.  I have a watercolor graduation hat floral card, ready for celebrating.

For a soft look, I added watercolor for color in coral and teal shades.  Also, I chose a complementing sheet of patterned paper to accent.

Sentiment:
Bittersweet endings, exciting beginnings.

Helpful tips:
For this watercolor graduation hat floral card, begin by preparing an A2 sized card base in white.  Also, trim a sheet of patterned paper for a background layer.  Then, onto the smooth side of the watercolor cardstock, stamp the grad cap and sentiment.  Next, add your choice of loose watercolor, allowing some of the white paper to show.  Note, be sure to dry or heat set each color section before moving on to a new color section.  Then, add light gray shading around the stamping.  (I used a watered-down black watercolor to get the light gray shade.)  Next, trim or die-cut a border from the watercolor panel.  Finally, layer the background and the hat panel using flat and foam double-sided tape, to finish.

2 Cards with 1 sheet of patterned paper & no coloring

Hello, it’s Gaylynn.  Today, I am sharing 2 cards with 1 sheet of patterned paper.  Plus no coloring is required for this card set.

These 2 cards with 1 sheet of patterned paper were easy to make.  However, the shaker part is optional but took a bit more time than the other card.

Sentiments:
Love is all you need.
You are so very loved.

Helpful tips:
Here are helpful tips for creating 2 cards with 1 sheet of patterned paper.  To begin, prepare two A2 card bases.  Next, trim a sheet of patterned paper to fit the card front.  Also, die-cut a pink cover panel with hears for the second card background.  Then, die-cut a pink heart frame from pink card stock by nesting two of the heart dies.  Also, die-cut a heart onto the patterned paper with the smaller of the two heart dies used previously.  Next, stamp and trim sentiments.  Then, make a shaker panel for the heart window card using acetate, the frame, cut out hearts and sequins.  Assemble the shaker card.  Next, adhere the pink hearts cover panel to the second card base.  Also, adhere the leftover heart cut from the patterned paper.  Finally, layer the sentiments on each card, to finish.

 

This is the first card made shaker style.

Here is the second card using the pink hearts cover-up background.

Wooden Heart stamp set (sentiments)
Fall Out Hearts {background die}
Dashes and Frills Hearts {die set}
Pink & Blue Watercolored {paper pack}

Also, sequins, clear card stock or acetate, die-cutting machine.

Creating Backgrounds and Paper Piecing

Happy Friday, everyone!  Today I’m sharing a fun slimline card using two different techniques:  stenciling when your stencil is smaller than your card and paper piecing!  Another fun request by Unies was unique baby cards.  Well, maybe this isn’t super unique, but it was too cute to not share!

Unity Products Used:

Stenciling Tip:  When you’re using a stencil that is 6″ x 6″ on a slimline card, you may need to improvise.  Here are some tips:

  • Layers:   With the new Polka Dot Stencil it’s pretty easy to continue the patter without it looking awkward.  With scattered patterns like this, another way to hide edges is to layer the stencil so you have a dark layer and a light layer (as seen above) to hide the seam.
  • Flip it:  Depending on the pattern, you may be able to flip the stencil over to create a mirrored look.  Just make sure you clean and dry the side you just used before you flip it and lay it on your project.
  • Partial stenciling:  If the image on your stencil is very detailed, try only using it on the corners or even randomly to create more of a grunge/distressed look.

The paper piecing was easy thanks to the fun patters of the Kindness is Magic paper pack that was included in the a previous Whit Kit, but can be purchased separately.  Here are some helpful tips when paper piecing on your project:

  • Stamping in the right direction:  Depending on the pattern, you may want to stamp your image in a certain direction, so make sure that you can fit the stamp without mixing up the pattern.  For this paper, the pattern was mixed up enough that direction wasn’t an issue.
  • Cut on the black line:  When you’re fussy cutting your stamped image, cut directly on the black line.  This allows the image to be clearly defined.
  • Fill in the edges:  When you’re done fussy cutting, you’ll likely see the white core of the patterned paper.  Take a Memento black marker and slide the larger tip on the edge to color the core.  ** Always have the tip face the same way the pattern so if your marker slides, it colors the back of your patterned paper, not the front.
  • Shading patterned paper:  Yep, you can still do shading with your Copics on patterned paper.   Either use greys or similar colors to make sure it matches, but shading the edges gives the fussy cut image more dimension.

To add a little fun to this card, I used string and mini clothesline pins to hang these onesies.  This is a fun little twist on a baby card…  more like twins with this one!  Lastly,  I added the simple and thoughtful sentiment die “Here’s a Hug.”  By die cutting the sentiment a few times and stacking it, this just adds one more level of dimension to this cute card.
